מכון שוקן למחקר היהדות שליד ביהמ"ד לרבנים באמריקה משמש מאז היווסדו בשנת 1936 אכסניה למפעלים אקדמיים ותרבותיים מגוונים.
בין כותלי בניין הבאוהאוס המרשים שבשכונת רחביה הירושלמית, המספר את תולדותיה והתפתחותה של תרבות הספר העברי לדורותיו, בינות לאוספים הנדירים של כתבי היד והדפוסים הראשונים נערכים זה למעלה משבעים שנה מחקרים חשובים במדעי היהדות: בשירה ובפיוט, משנה ובתלמוד, מנהגי ישראל, ביבליוגרפיה של ספרות השו"ת ובתולדות החינוך היהודי מימי הביניים ועד ראשית המאה הכ'.

The Schocken Institute for Jewish Research of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America

The Schocken Institute is a research institute devoted to innovative research activities in Jewish studies. The Institute traces its beginnings to 1936, when Zalman Schocken brought his world-class library to Palestine and established the famous library and the Institute for Hebrew Medieval Poetry with Heinrich Brody, Abraham Habermann and Menahem Zulay. Over the years the institute expanded its scholarly mission and output and has published important works in Talmudic and Rabbinic literature, Jewish custom, a bio-bibliography of Responsa literature and studies devoted to the history of Jewish Education from the Middle Ages until the beginning of the twentieth century.
The facilities of the institute are located in Jerusalem's Rehavia neighborhood, housed in the historical building designed by the acclaimed Bauhaus architect, Eric Mendelsohn. The Schocken Institute library contains an important rare-book collection, holds more than 60,000 volumes and houses the archives of Salmon Schocken and Moses Yerushalimsky. The library ranks as one of the finest Judaic research libraries attracting scholars from all over the world.
